Cool Women Hot Jobs!
Baltimore's Professional Women Inspire a Future Generation! |
|
|
On Tuesday, April 27, 2010, BLSYW hosted its inaugural nontraditional career
fair, "Cool Women, Hot Jobs!". This informative and entertaining event
presented BLSYW students with an opportunity to find out more about some
out-of-the-ordinary jobs that are open to them in the future.
Some of the fields covered were an epidemiologist, a special agent for the
FBI, an inventor, a Broadway producer,
|
|
an architect, a doctor, engineers,
and even a stand-up comedian.
The day opened with a networking breakfast for the professional women,
followed by a keynote speaker who addressed both the students and speakers
alike. After the keynote, each student got the opportunity to visit three
different sessions of their choice and actively participated in panel
discussions with the professional women. The day ended with the speakers
sharing lunch together and talking about their experiences.
"Everyone we approached was extremely excited to partner with us on this
program. We had women executives from Lockheed Martin, Under Armour, M&T
Bank, the Orioles, the Aquarium.not to mention the numerous entrepreneurs
and business owners. We truly brought the Boardroom to the Classroom",
states Brenda Rever Brown, Founder and Board Chair of BLSYW.
All of these women love what they do and talked with the students about
setting goals and attaining their dreams. Through the careers highlighted,
these women were able to bring to the table options that many students might
not even know existed, let alone consider. And, now, thanks to CWHJs they
know what these powerful women do and how they can follow in their footsteps
and have a positive impact on their community!
