Baltimore City Public School System CEO Dr. Andres Alonso
In the spring of 2008 Dr. Andres Alonso, Chief Executive Officer of the Baltimore City School System, announced the Transformation Schools Initiative. Transformation Schools are new small schools established through partnerships between BCPSS and outside organizations. Transformation Schools focus on a particular theme and will eventually serve students citywide in grades 6 through 12. The Transformation Schools Initiative is critical to City Schools’ commitment to high quality school options for all students citywide.

Young Women’s Leadership Network

Young Women’s Leadership Network Young Women’s Leadership Network
The Young Women’s Leadership Network (YWL Network) gives inner city youth a choice in their education. YWL Network partners with urban public school systems to create single-gender public schools and college access programs that raise expectations, increase performance and inspire leadership.

The YWL Network has paved the way for all-girls' public education in the United States. Our first school, The Young Women’s Leadership School of East Harlem (TYWLS) serves as a national catalyst for change, has a framework for academic success and achieves tremendous results. YWL Network is committed to giving urban students choice and opportunities for a first rate education and a path away from the cycles of poverty.
